According to Billboard and the late Hilly Kristal’s daughter, a documentary on CBGB, legendary New York City venue and birthplace of punk rock, is in the works.
The film, tentatively called CBGB, according to producers Brad Rosenberger, Randall Miller, Jody Savid and Kristal’s daughter Lisa Kristal Burgman, will cover the years betwee 1974 and ’76, a time when the venue was thee place to catch bands like the Ramones, Television, and Patti Smith.
Rosenberger said that, through Burgman’s connections, the team has been interviewing artists about Kristal and the club. He said that the “surrogate parent” relationship Hilly had with many of the artists has the production team confident they’ll secure music rights from bands for the film.
A late fall start for production is a possibility. I know it’s a long time away before this film will see the light of day, but c’mon, you know you’re excited. Somebody’s gotta turn all that crappy YouTube footage into something cool.
